I hope everyone is staying safe. Looks like the local courts, in the Kansas City area, will be closed for in person appearances through all of April 2020. It is my understanding that all court dates during this period will be continued to a later date. If you have a warrant and want to try to get it lifted or recalled during this period, a motion can be filed on your behalf by your lawyer electronically or by fax with the appropriate court requesting that it be lifted and a new court date given. Call me if you wish to find out more about and cost.

Looks like another I-70 closure in the Kansas City area this weekend. Hopefully everyone will be safe, but unfortunately such major highway closures can lead to accidents due to traffic congestion, unfamiliar driving detours, and drivers becoming frustrated. Everyone should give themselves extra time, pay extra attention to road signs and conditions, watch for road workers, and be courtesy to other drivers.

Explaining Pain and Suffering to a Jury
Attorneys for Defendants usually try to down play the pain and suffering of injured persons. This is particularly true in cases where the injuries are unusual and not easily explained without medical testimony. A good plaintiff’s attorney will be able to make sure a jury understands the nature and severity of his or her client’s injuries. The Plaintiff’s attorney, depending on the case, may have a number of friends and family, as well as doctors, testify concerning the nature of a client’s pain and suffering. The attorney may present the jury with a day in the life of an injured plaintiff to show the jury what the plaintiff faces daily. This type of demonstrative evidence can be very useful to a jury. A creative attorney can find any number of ways to explain or demonstrate the client’s pain and suffering to a jury.
